This was very much an even game with visitors Fakenham Town having the better chances. Soham replied to the visitors’ opening goal within 60 seconds to claim a point and extend their unbeaten run to seven games.

After a goalless first hour, Fakenham took a deserved lead in the 63rd minute. Richard Dye was on hand to net at close range after Wayne Coe had knocked down Darren Gould’s right-wing corner.

Soham immediately bounced back with an equaliser within 60 seconds. Paul Allen, on the right, played the ball into the area where Andy Morton lobbed the goalkeeper from 15 yards out.

Hullbridge, playing into a strong wind in the first half, took the lead against the run of play and went on to add two more second-half goals to record a comfortable win.

Attacking the changing rooms end in the first half [left to right in relation to the stand], Hullbridge (in 8th position with 20 points from 15 games) took the lead in the 11th minute. Scott Syrett hit home a dipping 25-yard right-foot drive after a right-wing corner was only partially cleared.

Ilford (11th position with 14 points from 15 games) made a double substitution at half-time but fell further behind in the 54th minute. Gary Ewers capitalised on a slip by Steve Osibote inside the ‘D’ and slotted the ball past goalkeeper Craig Lewis.

Hullbridge made sure of the points with a third goal scored in the 63rd minute. Khan Stephens sent a powerful right-foot drive into the top-left corner from the right corner of the area.
