A mistake was always going to settle this tie between two Screwfix Direct League Premier Division sides, which had few clear-cut goalscoring opportunities. Visitors Bridport were the side that progressed to the next round with an 83rd minute own goal. Mike Gilbert had the misfortune to send a back header from a bouncing throughball past his advancing goalkeeper into an empty net. Bideford played over an hour with ten men after player-manager Dean Edwards was involved in a skirmish inside the Bridport area which left Brent Ireland on the ground. The former Wolves and Stafford Rangers striker received a straight red card for his part of the incident.
